Q. How do Chiropractic Treatments Treat Injury and Relieve Pain?
A. Chiropractic treatment focuses on spinal joints that are not moving. Joints that are stuck or not moving can cause pain and irritation to the muscles and nerves and cause chronic pain. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to the stuck joints relieving pain and irritation and allowing the body to right itself and return to optimal health and function.
Q. How long does a Chiropractic Treatment Session Last?
A. A typical treatment with Dr. Etter takes about 10-15 minutes and incorporates Chiropractic adjustments to the spine and extremities as well as myofascial release treatment and manual traction of the spine.
Q. So how fast do Chiropractic Treatments work? How many times will I need a treatment?
A. On the first visit patients are recommended a treatment plan for their condition. A typical treatment plan involves 5-8 treatments over 2-3 weeks. Some patients may need more or less visits. Once the condition is corrected patients may choose a regular maintenance schedule or return as needed.
Q. Are Chiropractic Treatments just for my back, or what? Can you help with leg pain, hands, feet, etc.?
A. Chiropractic adjustments to the feet, shoulders, elbows and knees are often very effective in relieving pain and problems in these areas. Just as in the spine stuck joints in the extremities may cause pain and dysfunction. Myofascial release techniques are particularly effective in dealing with overuse conditions such as rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis elbow, biceps tendonitis, carpal tunnel, knee pain, IT band syndrome, hip bursitis, and running injuries. Yes, Chiropractic Treatments to the Extremities are not uncommon.
Q. What kinds of Chiropractic Treatments are there? Which do you use?
A. There are many different types of Chiropractic treatments. Dr. Etter focuses primarily on hands on treatments. Some treatments involve a slow gentle pressure or stretch and others a quick push that may produce a popping sound known as joint cavitation. Lumbar flexion distraction is a technique that specifically addresses lower back pain involving the discs and joints of the lower back. Lumbar flexion distraction is a form of manual traction and is performed on a special table. Myofascial release treatments are also performed on each visit.
